Resources To Use When Vetting Candidates

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is what resources are available to properly vet each candidate.  Here are a few of our favorites.

Utah Legislative Scorecard- Comparative spreadsheet of various Legislator scorecards
Utah Data points- Search the site for how many times your legislator voted yea or nay, the amount of legislation passed each year etc.
Campaign Disclosures- See who has contributed to each candidate and whether they are special interest groups, corporations or citizens. Follow their money trail. See if it has changed over the years or influenced their legislative decisions.
Project Vote Smart- Look up how your lawmaker voted on each piece of legislation
Libertas Legislator Indexes- Legislator scores according to Libertas Institute
Grassroots Legislative Reports- Grassroots Utah report and Legislative score cards
Utah State Legislature- Use the grey keyword search bar at the top of the page.  Type in a candidate's name. This will show you emails to and from legislators and any legislative record for a citizen or lawmaker.
Other Hints
  • Simply google the candidates name+ the subject you are interested in learning about. See where they stand. Search both web and news tabs to see what pops up.
  • Search newspaper articles for your candidate.
  • Find their social media accounts. You will learn a lot there.
